About the Department

The department of Mechanical Engineering was approved by AICTE, affiliated to DOTE and was established in the year 1986. Till date 33 batches have passed out with flying colors. A department flourishes in academics and in extracurricular activities only with the strength, support and guidance of its knowledgeable and experienced faculties. Mechanical engineering is a discipline of engineering that applies the principles of physics and material science of analysis, design, manufacturing and maintenance of mechanical system is the branch of engineering that involves the production and usage of heat and mechanical power for the design, production, and operation of machines and tools. It is one of the oldest broadest engineering disciplines.

The department of evolved a comprehensive students centric learning approach, designed to add significant values to the learner, understands in an integrated manner through workshops, laboratory sessions, assignments, seminar, projects and independent study. To enlighten the mechanical brains at our campus, the department has inculcated the best of the industry’s practices through its syllabus. Our Mechanical Engineers are the wizards, who develop physical systems and devices to address needs with a futuristic vision. Many inventions of these intellects have changed the course of life adding sophistication.

Modernized foundry, smithy, CNC lab and welding lab, well equipped special machines lab have been established in our department for the welfare of the students. Students get practical training about turning, thread cutting, knurling, drilling and facing at lathe section. The advanced software tools like PRO-E, CAM, CADD and CATIA are available in our lab enables the students to develop the design and modeling knowledge

MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY LABORATORY-I

Identify the parts of a center lathe
Identify the work holding devices
Set the tools for various operations
Operate the lathe and Machine a component using a lathe
Identify the tools used in the foundry.
Identify the tools and equipment used in welding
Prepare sand molds for different patterns.
Identify the different welding defects.
Appropriate the safety practices used in welding

MEASUREMENTS AND METROLOGY LABORATORY

Familiarize about measuring techniques of Metrology instruments.
Select the range of measuring tools. Study of accuracy of instruments and calibration of instruments.
Obtain accurate measurements.
Determine the least count of measuring instruments.
Acquire knowledge about linear measurement.
Acquire knowledge about angular measurement.
Acquire knowledge about geometric measurements.
Study of Linear Measuring Instruments:Vernier Caliper,Micrometer,Inside Micrometer, Vernier Height gauge and Slip Gauge.
Study of Angular Measuring Instruments–Universal Bevel Protractor, SineBar.
Study of Geometric measurement - Gear tooth Vernier, Thread Vernier.

STRENGTH OF MATERIALS AND FLUID MECHANICS LABORATORY

Acquire skills in different types of testing methods of metals.
Conduct material testing on elasticity, hardness, shear strength
Determine modulus of rigidity of open spring and closed coil springs.
Determine the discharge coefficient of venturimeter, orifice meter, mouthpiece, and orifice.
Determine the coefficient of friction in pipes.
Conduct performance tests on centrifugal and reciprocating pumps.
Conduct performance tests on reaction turbine and impulse turbine.

MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY LABORATORY-II

Identify a milling machine and its parts
Identify a cylindrical grinder, surface grinder, and tool, and cutter grinder
Identify shaper, Slotter, and its parts
Identify the tools and instruments used in milling.
Study the components of the CNC machine and setting.
Handle the different types of work holding devices
Machine a component using different machine tools.
Calculate the indexing for a work
Machine a gear using a milling machine.
Machine a cutting tool using a Tool and Cutter grinder.
Machine a plug gauge using a Cylindrical grinding machine.
Machine components by shaping machine and slotting machine.

ELECTRICAL DRIVES AND CONTROL LABORATORY

The objective is to introduce students to the electric drives and control laboratory and to conduct experiments using experimental setups on which students perform experiments related to topics studied in electric drives and control theory course like speed control of DC motor, speed control of AC motor, load tests etc.

PROCESS AUTOMATION LABORATORY

Design and operate pneumatic circuits.
Design and operate fluid power circuits
Use the PLC system and its elements for process control
Familiarize the working of function blocks in PLC
Use the ON-Delay timer to control a motor
Use the OFF-Delay timer to control a motor
Use counter function block (Up counter and Down counter)
Control the automatic operation of the pneumatic cylinder using PLC

THERMAL AND AUTOMOBILE ENGINEERING LABORATORY

Determine the flash and fire point of oil by using open & closed cup apparatus
Determine the absolute viscosity by using redwood & say bolt viscometer
Draw the valve timing diagram of petrol or diesel engines.
Draw the port timing diagram of petrol or diesel engines.
Conduct performance tests on petrol or diesel engines.
Prepare a heat balance sheet petrol or diesel engines
Prepare a Morse test on a petrol or diesel engines
Identify the various tools and their applications used in Automobiles.
Dismantle and assemble fuel injection pump & fuel injectors.
Dismantle and assemble of power transmission and differential unit.
Dismantle and assemble steering gear box.

MACHINE TOOL TESTING AND MAINTENANCE LABORATORY

Students to set up instrument for machine tool testing and machine tool alignment and results, and also observe manufacturing accuracy of machine tools and maintenance of the machine components.

REFRIGERATION AND AIR CONDITIONING LABORATORY

Refrigeration and air-conditioning deals with the techniques to control the environments of the living and non-living subjects and thus provides them comforts to enable them to perform better and have longer lives.The objective of this system is to provide the environment with the required temperature and humidity for human comfort and health.

COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN AND MANUFACTURING LABORATORY

The objective of the lab is to develop the designs of various mechanical components using 2D and 3D Software. This lab is available to graduate the students in the fields of Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing. The basic knowledge can be used for successful accomplishment of project works.
